Snap-offs


1. Generally caused by an out-of-round reel running at too high a speed.
check for a bent reel spool journal.
2. Check and adjust sheet tensions.
avoid excessive tension.
3. Check and adjust unwind oscillation which may be too fast.
this may throw a wrinkle into the slitters.
4. May be caused by loss of traction.
check braking systems.
5. Check and adjust spreader devices to avoid excessive tension on the web.
6. Look for sheet floating over stationary web supports.
7. At slitters, may be due to top slitter bearing failure or slitters running too slowly.
8. Check operation of trim removal system.
